Exploring with Eric Carle!

We are learning so much in our class! Mrs. Andrea and I are amazed at how much progress we have already made!

This week was Eric Carle week at LAP! We had fun reading a variety of books written and illustrated by this author, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Mixed-Up Chameleon, Little Cloud, The Grouchy Ladybug, Polar Bear, Polar Bear; and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  To go along with these books, we enjoyed singing, creating caterpillars from egg cartons, making grouchy ladybugs, and retelling Brown Bear, Brown Bear with our paper bag bears! Everyone is doing a great job listening to our books and carefully creating their artwork. Make sure to look for your child's grouchy ladybug in the hallway this week!

We also continued to enjoy our learning centers this week. In our reading groups, we kept working on names as well as creating our own "Brown Bear" books. Please look for these in your child's poetry folder.  You can finish these/read these together at home in place of poetry work this week. (If you would keep them in the poetry folder, we will reread them in class this coming week.) At our independent centers, we
worked on making patterns by creating caterpillars out of colorful pouch caps/pipe cleaners, practiced helping a hungry caterpillar "crawl" to his food by tracing different lines, stamped the word "yellow" (our color of the week), and even played a group graphing game with colored bear counters.

To go along with The Very Hungry Caterpillar, we had fun stomping on our "caterpillar" made from colored circles. Jumping or stomping from one color, one number, or one letter to another is a great way to combine these skills with gross motor activity. We also worked on colors to go along with reading The Mixed Up Chameleon! We enjoyed our first time water color painting as well as building felt caterpillars.

To work on the letter F, we practiced our poem "Freddy Frog" each day and had fun sharing all of our letter F objects! We also did our first "skills sheet" that worked on writing the letter F and the number 2.

Our Bible focus this week was on the first two days of creation! We practiced our verse for September: "God saw everything He had made, and it was very good!" (Genesis 1:31) We will be practicing the song "All Good" each day of September. It is a fun song that you may enjoy singing at home! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6GHjqks4pY)

This week, see if your child can...

1. Tell you what God made on the first two days of creations. (Maybe read this section of Genesis 1 together!)

2. Practice our Bible verse for September.
3. Draw the letters M,T, and F (or words beginning with these letters if they are ready) in sand, salt, shaving cream, etc.
4. Read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" with you (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaDDsT9IAWc) using their brown bear paper bag and their book.
5. Hop and count to 20 (or further if they are ready).

We can't wait for apple fun next week!
