Snow is Falling!

Snow was in the air this week in our classroom!

Our inquisitive minds are growing each week! We had fun learning some neat facts about snowflakes, including that each and every one is unique in some way. Our secret message that we uncovered this week told us that God made each of us unique (just like the snowflakes).

We also had fun talking about snowmen this week! Two of the books we read were Sneezy the Snowman and Snowmen All Year! We painted our own melted snowmen as well as built play dough snowmen! (A big thanks to my mom for bringing this fun snowman building activity to us!) Unfortunately, we forgot to send these home, so they are still hardening in our room until next week!

Our letter of the week was the letter K... We did a great job sharing our letter K items. We also had fun sharing the VERY creative snowmen that were made at home! We didn't get to do quite as much literacy work this week due to assessments. However, you can still find our fun Snowman poem in poetry folders (sung to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot").

Some of our other fun centers this week included painting ice trays, beading snow flakes, building shape snowflakes, decorating our own snowflakes, working on one-to-one counting when scooping snowballs into cups, and building snowmen and snowflakes with pattern blocks. We had fun using Legos to paint igloos and snow all on our own! We even got to write letters in "snow" (shaving cream) and work on our fine motor skills by using "snow shovels" (clothespins) to clean up the blizzard that hit our green room!

Our science experiment for the week was discussing why salt is used on the roads and sidewalks when there is snow or ice. We watched as salt melted a block of ice right before our eyes! Pretty cool! We also practiced our investigation skills by looking at tiny snowflake pictures under magnifying glasses and matching them to larger pictures.

We continued our January focus on the miracles of Jesus, this week on feeding the 5,000 with five loaves of bread and two fish. We are getting very good at our verse... "With God, all things are possible!"

Here are some things to ask your child this week... Can you...
1. Tell me some words that begin with the K sound?
2. Write the numbers 11,12, and 13?
3. Tell me something unique about you?
4. Tell me two miracles Jesus did?
5. Draw a triangle, square, circle, rectangle, and oval?

Painting ice!

So many beads!

Look at this good independent work!
