Blast Off to Space!

Our week was out of this world! Space week was a blast!

We learned so much this week... We enjoyed learning about our solar system, our sun, our moon, star constellations, gravity, and more! We were amazed at how much these little minds were able to absorb this week.

Some of our fun activities included building our own crater-filled moons, painting suns, making constellations, and even making our own giant planet. We enjoyed discussing astronauts, the planets, features of the sun, the effects of gravity, and how the Earth orbits around the sun. We also discussed how awesome is it that our God made ALL of this! What an amazing God we have!

We read all nonfiction books this week, which brought lots of learning! Our letter of the week was the letter W, and our sight word was "we". We practiced this with our new space poem, which you can practice at home using your reading folder. We continued to practice writing and spelling our last names, as well as our mom's phone numbers. In our centers, we also colored a giant class solar system mural, painted an astronaut (to add to our portfolios), and practiced our fine motor skills by using rubber bands to make constellations. We even did a fun science experiment as we talked about how Venus is so hot that rocks even melt!

We wrapped up our January theme of "Jesus can do anything!" Our final story was about Jesus and Peter walking on the water. With God, all things really are possible!

Here are a few things to check with your child this week. Can you...

1. Tell me what gravity is?

2. Write the words "we", "see", and "the"?
3. Count to 50? **This is a challenge for some of us!
4. Build the numbers 13 and 14 out of objects in your house?
5. Tell me two fun facts about the moon and sun?!

"We see the sun."

We chose constellations from a set of cards and made them ourselves!

Making our last names into constellations

Writing on stars is always fun!

We used yarn circles to make craters!

Number ordering with rockets!

Planet fun!

Rubber band constellations

"If I were an astronaut, I would travel to ______."

The perfect shirt for this week!

Who knew learning about gravity could be so fun?!!

"The Earth goes 'round the sun..."

Fun outside!
